Age Uke (rising block) deflects downward strikes — a hammer-fist, overhead club, or descending punch — away from the head by driving the forearm in an upward arc. The technique appears in Heian Shodan and is the standard answer to jodan (head-level) attacks throughout the Heian kata series. The forearm ends above the forehead, angled at approximately 45° so the incoming force is deflected rather than absorbed directly.
