The fighting stance is the dynamic guard position used in sparring — weight distributed 50/50, lead foot forward, hands raised to protect the head and body.

The fighting stance (Gyeorugi Seogi) is the foundational guard position for Taekwondo sparring (Gyeorugi). Unlike the static poomsae stances, the fighting stance is designed for mobility: it allows rapid stepping, quick kicks, and transitions between offense and defense. In Olympic-style WTF/WT sparring, the stance is upright and bouncy rather than deeply rooted, prioritising reach and speed over power generation.
