The walking stance is the primary stance used in poomsae — it mirrors a natural walking step and develops hip alignment and balance.

The walking stance (Ap Seogi) is the fundamental stance of Taekwondo poomsae practice. While not used in sparring, it is the platform from which all beginner forms (Taeguek Il Jang through Sam Jang) are performed. Correct walking stance trains hip alignment, weight distribution, and the coordination of upper and lower body in combination with blocks and strikes.
