The roundhouse kick (Dollyo Chagi) is the defining kick of Taekwondo and the most frequently scored technique in Olympic sparring. The leg travels in a horizontal arc rather than a straight line, striking from the side. The striking surface is the ball of the foot (for precision and penetration) or the instep (for speed and area coverage in sparring with foot protectors). Its combination of speed, range, and the ability to target head-height makes it central to competitive Taekwondo.
