The side kick (Yeop Chagi) is one of Taekwondo's most powerful kicks. While the front kick moves straight forward, the side kick drives perpendicular to the body's facing direction — into the target from the side. The power comes from a hip-loading chamber and a sharp thrust of the hip at extension, not just leg extension. A properly executed side kick can generate enormous force and is effective against both body and head targets.
