The armbar (Juji Gatame in judo) is one of the most fundamental and highest-percentage submissions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It hyperextends the elbow joint by trapping the opponent's arm across the attacker's hips and applying leverage against the joint. The armbar can be applied from many positions — most commonly from guard and mount at white belt level. It is a tap-or-snap submission: the opponent must tap before the joint is forced past its range of motion.
