Side control (also called side mount or cross body) is the position where the top player pins the bottom player from the side, with their bodies forming a perpendicular cross. Unlike mount, side control does not use the legs to straddle the opponent — instead, the top player uses chest pressure, arm control, and weight distribution. It is one of the most common positions after a guard pass and acts as a launching pad for advancing to mount, taking the back, or attacking submissions.
